Online social interaction offers great opportunity to develop and practice positive social as well as good communication skills. However, the threat of cyberbullying and the possibility of inappropriate sharing require protecting children. What do you think the role of online social interaction should be in schools? What steps should educators take to ensure that such integration can be done safely?
I feel like online social interaction has no place in school. Students are at school to learn, not to be checking their Facebook. This leads to all kinds of problems, including cyberbullying. However, if online social interaction were to be integrated into school, there should be blocks on certain sites and keywords. Knowing how kids are these days, everything would need to be filtered. Parents also need to be more involved with their children and what they are doing online. But that is another problem entirely...

As emerging technologies continue to affect education, there is little question that the role of the teacher will change. Imagine yourself teaching a class in 20 years. How do you think your role would be different from the typical teacher’s role today?
In 20 years, there is no telling how far technology will advance. I imagine there will be less of a traditional classroom. Textbooks will be replaced with technology that has the information needed at the students' fingertips. However, no matter how much technology changes, the role of the teacher will be the same: to teach students to their content standards. The only thing that will change will be the methods used.
