Standard 4
IV. Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
a. Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
b. Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
c. Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
d. Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools
Reflections: With all the technology at our fingertips, both teachers and students struggle with copyright issues. I have found that many students don't understand about plagiarism so I keep a PowerPoint on plagairism handy to show when I get new students. When students use PowerPoint or write papers for me, they often will use a portion of someone else's work without properly giving credit. I try to keep students from doing this by making sure they are fully aware of what plagiarism is and what it feels like when someone uses their work without giving them credit. I also chose the blog because it allows students a chance to create a global identity and communicate with people from around the world, thus making them better citizens.

Future Learning Goal: With my students required to make multiple projects and presentations, I want them all to fully understand what plagiarism is as well as the repercussions of doing it. I plan on continuing to use my PowerPoint to show the students. I also would like to have the students create a blog as a way to build themselves as a global citizen.
